John Wall’s season is officially over. The Washington Wizards announced the six-time All-Star will undergo surgery on his left Achilles tendon next week to alleviate pain and inflammation caused by bones spurs.
The procedure is described as a debridement and repair of a Haglund’s deformity, an issue Wall has dealt with much of his career.
The surgery will be done in Green Bay, Wisconsin, per the Wizards statement with Green Bay Packers associate physician Dr. Robert Anderson. Wall be out six to eight months.
Candace Buckner of the Washington Post first reported Wall was planning to undergo the season-ending surgery. He had consulted with Dr. Anderson and it was determined the best solution was to have surgery.
This will be the second consecutive season Wall has missed extended time. Last season he missed 41 games in total, most of which due to a knee injury.
This season, Wall missed four games, one personal due to the birth of his son, Ace. He missed another due to illness and two due to his heel before opting for surgery.
He finishes the season averaging 20.7 points, 8.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 32 games. He shot a career-high 50.7 percent on two-point shots.
