John Wall shoots down report about talking to Italian team

John Wall headed to Italy to play in the EuroLeague? A report surfaced Wednesday by BasketNews that Wall, a five-time NBA All-Star, was in talks with Italian club Armani Milan. However, Wall ultimately responded, refuting the report on Twitter.

“Where Do Y’all Get Ur Info from? False News!!” Wall tweeted.

John Wall, 32, has been a free agent since February. After playing 34 games with the Los Angeles Clippers, Wall got traded back to the Houston Rockets as part of a three-team deal. The Rockets waived him shortly afterward.

Wall held a workout last month in Las Vegas for NBA teams to attend. The Boston Celtics and Portland Trailblazers were two of the multiple teams that reportedly watched Wall. Yet, no deal has come to fruition.

For ten seasons, Wall was the cornerstone of the Washington Wizards. He became Washington’s all-time leader in assists (5,282), and steals (976) and fourth in scoring with 10,879 points.

Wall led the Wizards to the second round of the NBA playoffs four times. But alongside Bradley Beal, the Wizards never could get over the hump. Wall’s career peaked in 2017 when he earned third-team All-NBA honors, averaging 23.1 points, 10.7 assists, and 2.0 steals while shooting 45.1% from the field — all career highs.

Unfortunately, Wall’s career stalled after he suffered various injuries, including a torn Achilles during the 2018-19 season. After sitting out the following season, Wall returned to the court in 2020-21 following his trade to Houston.

He averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists in 40 games before getting shut down for the season. The Rockets and Wall negotiated for him to sit out the 2021-22 season while the team headed into a youth movement. He reached a buyout agreement on the final year of his $170 million contract, which led to his signing with the Clippers.

In his prime, Wall stole the show with his insane highlights of passes, turnaround dunks, and animated reactions. However, now he’s played a total of 74 games since December 2018.

His NBA future is very much in the air. Playing overseas seems to be a viable option. In June, Wall was linked to an Australian NBL basketball team that he has minority ownership in. Yet, he refuted the report about him having talks with Armani Milan.
