Washington Redskins president Bruce Allen put to rest any thoughts about who Washington wanted at quarterback. Recently, New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman stated that two teams, which presumably included the Redskins, would have drafted quarterback Daniel Jones before the Giants’ 17th pick in the draft.

The Giants took Jones with the No. 6 pick, the first of three first-round picks for them. Meanwhile, the Redskins stayed at bay with their No. 15 pick landing quarterback Dwayne Haskins.

While appearing on NFL Network’s “NFL Total Access,” Allen refuted Gettleman’s presumed claim, saying he has “no clue” of how the Redskins’ draft board looked.

“We picked the player we wanted to pick,” he said on according to NFL.com’s Kevin Patra. “I’m almost positive Dave (Gettleman) has no clue what our draft board would be. I don’t know which draft boards he knows, but he doesn’t know ours.”

Two reports that have come out Wednesday have backed Allen.

JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington says Haskins was indeed the Redskins choice of quarterbacks even if Jones was available at No. 15.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter went further reporting no team would have drafted Jones within the first 29 picks, leaving him available at No. 30 the last of the Giants’ three first-round picks.

Nonetheless, the careers of Jones and Haskins will be compared for years to come as both are in the NFC East. Many draft pundits viewed Haskins ahead of Jones, yet Jones was selected nine picks before Haskins.

Gettleman’s tenure with the Giants will be defined by the success of both players. For Allen and the Redskins’ faithful, the hope is Haskins will have the better of the two careers.
