The Washington Nationals did a feat no other club in MLB history has done before. Sunday, Howie Kendrick, Trea Turner, Adam Eaton, and Anthony Rendon hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning to bust open a 1-1 tie in route to a 5-2 win over the San Diego Padres.
All four home runs came off former Nationals’ reliever Craig Stammen.
Kendrick got the rally started with a pitch-hit homer on the seventh pitch he saw. It was his 11th home run of the season, momentarily tying Rendon for the team lead. Until Rendon jacked his 12th of the year three batters later.
Turner, Eaton, and Rendon all hit home runs on the second pitch they saw from Stammen, and all off sinkers.
Washington’s bat explosion lifted them to a four-game split with the Padres, keeping their five-series unbeaten streak going. They have now won 11 of their last 15 games.
