Phillies fans are completely over Trea Turner after latest blunder

Anthony Rendon, Max Scherzer, Josh Bell, and Juan Soto have all struggled with life after the Washington Nationals. Trea Turner is now experiencing the same troubles.

In his first year of an 11-year, $300 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, Turner has turned into a disaster. His struggles came to a head in the Philles’ loss to the Miami Marlins Wednesday night.

The Phillies blew a 5-0 lead as the game went into extra innings. Philly had an opportunity to seal the game in the 11th with the lead. However, a grounder off the bet of Bell slipped right past Turner’s glove into the outfield, allowing the game-tying run.

The Marlins eventually won the game 9-8 in the 12th. What makes matters worse for Turner, he went 0-for-5 with a walk at the plate.

To his credit, Turner owned up to costing his team the win.

“I’m the reason why we lost that game,” Turner confessed, per Philly Nation. “I have to make that play. I make that play, and the game is over.”

On the defensive play, Turner did not get charged with an error. But he has 13 on the season. Philadelphia fans are brutal and seemingly have turned on Turner already.

“Trea Turner has to make that play,” ESPN’s Kevin Negandhi posted. “At least keep it in front of you. Offense is not there. Need your defense in a big moment. Brutal.”

“We may have officially hit an all-time low in Trea Turner saga. He’s unplayable right now,” Sean Barnard of Pick Swap Media posted.

Other tweets stated, “Honestly, the Phillies should end Trea Turner to Lehigh Valley.”

“That brother should be flipping burgers,” another read.

“I don’t know what the solution is, but Trea Turner is unplayable right now.”

Trea Turner is hitting .237, his lowest batting average since he became a full-time major leaguer. So is his .662 OPS. It’s been a brutal start to Turner’s tenure with the Phillies.

Philadelphia (58-50) is barley holding on to an NL wild-card spot. They’ll need Turner to shake his hiccups and get back on track if the Phillies want to return to the World Series for a second consecutive year. If not, they may have to decide on the otherwise reliable shortstop.
