Adrian Peterson, Jordan Reed, Colt McCoy, and Fabian Moreau each are part of the Washington Redskins inactive players for Sunday’s season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. Peterson (coach’s decision), Reed (concussion), McCoy (leg), and Moreau (ankle) were all expected to be inactive.

Wes Martin, LG

Rookie offensive guard Wes Martin, not so much. Martin missed out on the starting left guard spot to embattled veteran Ereck Flowers to much chagrin of Redskins fans. With the fourth-round pick inactive, Flowers appears locked in at left guard even if he struggles in the game.

Treyvon Hester, DL

Another interesting inactive is defensive lineman Treyvon Hester. The Redskins signed the former Philadelphia Eagle earlier this week following the trim down from 90 to 53 players. Hester was brought in for defensive line depth as Caleb Brantley was dealing with a Lisfranc injury. Brantley is active and will play, forcing Hester into street clothes.

Fabian Moreau, CB

Rookie Jimmy Moreland is expected to fill in for Moreau at slot corner. The “People’s Corner” has a great opportunity to display why he may be the steal of the entire 2019 NFL Draft as a seventh-round pick. Moreau has been bothered with a sprained ankle since Aug. 18. He was in a walking boot that kept him out of the last two preseason games.

Jordan Reed, TE

Reed wasn’t cleared out from the concussion protocol. The star tight end suffered his seventh documented concussion after receiving a helmet-to-helmet hit from Atlanta Falcons safety Keanu Neal in Week 3 of the preseason. Washington activated JP Holtz from the team’s practice squad to give them three tight ends. Vernon Davis and Jeremy Sprinkle are expected to split reps in Reed’s place.

Adrian Peterson, RB

Meanwhile, Peterson is a coach’s decision. The 2012 NFL MVP has been benched in favor of last year’s second-round pick Derrius Guice, who is returning from a torn ACL in his rookie season. With Chris Thompson set at third down back, head coach Jay Gruden has opted to activate Wendell Smallwood as the third running back and for special teams over Peterson.

The decision reportedly has not sat well with some of the Redskins veterans.

Cassanova McKinzy Will Be Active

In good news linebacker Cassanova McKinzy was cleared from the concussion protocol. The Redskins had lacked depth at outside linebacker/edge, but McKinzy will join Ryan Kerrigan, Ryan Anderson, and rookie Montez Sweat at edge.

Eagles Inactive List

The Eagles, meanwhile, have not surprises for their inactive list. However, former Redskins quarterback Nate Sudfeld will miss the game as he deals with a broken hand. Sudfeld was with the Redskins for two training camps, but was claimed by Philadelphia after he was waived ahead of the 2017 season.

Sudfeld started and beat the Redskins in last season’s Week 17 matchup.
