Maryland quarterback Max Bortenschlager announced Monday (via social media) he is entering the transfer protocol.
As a redshirt junior, Bortenschlager will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Bortenschlager arrived to College Park in 2016 as a recruit of DJ Durkin. As a freshman, Bortenschlager appeared in two games. He got his biggest dose of action as a sophomore, appearing in 10 games due to injuries at quarterback for Maryland.
As a sophomore, he completed 51.9% of his passes for 1,313 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions.
He appeared in game in 2018 as a junior under interim head coach Matt Canada. He did appear in any game in 2019 under head coach Mike Locksley sitting behind Josh Jackson and Tyrrell Pigrome.
Both Jackson and Pigrome are expected to return to Maryland in 2020. Also, 2019 four-star recruit Lance LeGendre is expected to challenge for starting quarterback.
