Caylin Newton transfers from Howard to Auburn

Caylin Newton, the younger brother of Cam Newton, has decided to transfer to Auburn as a grad transfer. Newton a 6-foot-10, 195 pound quarterback, played at Howard from 2017-2019 before he left the program four games into last season.

Newton will be eligible to play immediately and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

As a freshman, Newton quarterbacked Howard over UNLV largest point-spread upset in college football history. He build on his collegiate debut to be named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year. In 2018 as a sophomore, Newton continued his success.

He threw for 2,629 yards, 22 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He earned MEAC Offensive Player of the Year and was named the MEAC preseason Player of the Year ahead of the 2019 season.

However, after Howard’s fourth game, Newton revealed he intended to transfer from the program.

According to 247 Sports, Newton will be a walk-on at Auburn, at first. He will be listed as an athlete, meaning he could play at quarterback, wide receiver or any other position. Recently, Newton was seen running routes in his workouts.

Newton’s decision to play at Auburn will draw comparisons of his NFL brother, as Cam starred at Auburn, winning a Heisman and national championship in his lone season there.
