Trea Turner busts out of hitless slump with home run blast

Trea Turner struggled out the gates starting the 2020 MLB season. The Washington Nationals shortstop entered Sunday’s series finale against the New York Yankees hitless in seven at-bats.

After striking out in his first at-bat Sunday. Turner broke out of his hitless slump with a no-doubt solo home run, clearing the visiting bullpen in the process.

Turner jumped on a 2-2 fastball from starter Jonathan Loaisiga to give Washington an early 1-0 lead in the third inning.

Turner went hitless through the first two games of the season. The only thing Turner was close to hitting was the Yankees’ dugout.

He also tacked on two errors on the same play Saturday, adding to his struggles.

Turner was overdue a breakout. His day got off to a better start, fielding two grounders in the first with ease. After breaking out of his 0-for-8 slump with a home run, Turner jumped into the waiting arms of teammate Kurt Suzuki.

Hopefully, Turner can settle into a groove at the plate and defensively now he has got off the schneid.
