The tumultuous career of Derrius Guice in Washington came to an abrupt end Friday. The running back turned himself in to the Loudoun County Sheriff Office Friday afternoon on domestic violence charges. Washington released him shortly afterwards.
Guice’s time with Washington was marred with knee injuries. As a rookie, he missed the entire 2018 season after suffering a torn ACL in a preseason game. In 2019, he suffered a partially torn meniscus in the season opener. Washington placed him on injured reserve. Yet, he returned, but his season was shut down after five games when he suffered a MCL sprain.
He was cleared to play this season just ahead of training camp. However, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Guice suffered yet another knee injury.
This season was supposed to be a make or break season for Derrius Guice coming off two injury-plagued seasons. He was expected to be atop Washington’s depth chart at running back alongside Adrian Peterson, if he could stay healthy.
Unfortunately, none of that matters after the serious matter of domestic violence. But, according to Rapoport, Guice had already taken a step back with yet another knee injury before domestic violence news broke.
