The Washington Football Team’s running back just became a little less crowded. The team has released third-year pro Derrius Guice shortly after he turned himself in on domestic violence charges.
Washington released a statement the release of Guice:
Guice’s charges include one count of strangulation, which is a felony, three counts of assault and battery and one count destruction of property in Loudon County, Virginia, according to the Washington Post.
Guice was cleared to play this season after recovering from a MCL sprain he suffered last season. He also dealt with a partially torn meniscus earlier in the season.
Guice’s time with Washington ends after appearing in only five games through his first two seasons. Drafted in the second round, Guice missed all of his rookie season in 2018 after tearing his ACL in the preseason opener.
Guice was set for a make or break season, joining a crowded backfield with Adrian Peterson, rookie Antonio Gibson, returning Bryce Love, who missed all of his rookie season last year with a torn ACL, and free agent pickups JD McKissic and Peyton Barber.
Once pegged the featured back of the future for Washington, Guice’s tenure ends with 245 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown.
