The Washington Football Team has released wide receiver Darvin Kidsy and signed wide receiver Tony Brown in a corresponding transaction.
Kidsy signed with Washington in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri. He has spent each of the past two seasons on the team’s practice squad. He earned promotions to the active roster each season, recording one catch for eight yards in five games.
Kidsy had hoped to carve out an larger role on the team this season. However, Dontrelle Inman has emerged as strong No. 2 option opposite Terry McLaurin and alongside Steven Sims Jr. Cam Sims and Trey Quinn have had strong training camps as well, leaving Kidsy as a long shot to make the 53-man roster.
Tony Brown was waived by the New York Giants last week and went unclaimed. Brown initially signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado, but was waived in July before being claimed by the Giants.
Brown stands at 6-foot-1 and officially ran a 4.65 40-yard dash. He struggled to get on track in two seasons at Texas Tech before transferring to Colorado. As a junior in 2018, he stepped up in an increased role with 32 catches on 333 yards and one touchdown. He blossomed as senior last season with 56 catches for 707 yards and five touchdowns.
Questions about his speed and whether he was a one-hit wonder led to going undrafted. With final cuts due by Saturday, now the question is will Brown be afforded the opportunity to show enough of a glimmer to earn an extended look beyond this week on Washington’s practice squad?
