Brandon Scherff to miss a couple of weeks after receiving ‘good news’ on knee injury

The Washington Football Team received “good news” on Brandon Scherff. The Pro Bowl right guard will miss a couple of weeks with a knee injury, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Scherff had to be helped off the field after getting his leg rolled into in the second quarter of Sunday’s 30-15 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Wes Schweitzer replaced him for the remainder of the game.

Rivera prefers not to give details of injuries in pressers. However, the update is indeed good news for Scherff considering how bad the injury looked.

Going a couple of weeks without its best offensive lineman will be a challenge for Washington. Their offensive line has already been a point of emphasis with Washington’s struggles on offense. Not having Scherff increases that.

Still, getting Scherff back is great on a multitude of fronts. Getting him back this season improves the protection of quarterback Dwayne Haskins and the blocking of the run game.

Scherff is playing this season on a franchise tag at $15.03 million after he and the team couldn’t agree on a long-term deal this past off-season. Him returning to the field allows both sides an opportunity for clarity in regards towards contract negotiations.

Brandon Scherff started 46 of a 48 games in his first three seasons with Washington, earning two trips to the Pro Bowl in 2016 and 2017. However, he has struggled with various injuries as of late, missing 13 games over the past two seasons.
