Ron Rivera flew separately from Washington Football Team for Arizona road game

Washington Football Team head coach Ron RIvera flew a private plane separately from his team to Arizona for Sunday’s game. Rivera told reporters he flew in Saturday, a day later from the team. Following Washington’s 30-15 loss, he flew back to Washington a bit earlier without to receive his cancer treatment Monday.

Last month, Rivera announced he was diagnosed with a form of skin cancer. While he has encouraged Washington would operate “business as usual,” there have been daily challenges for him in his first year in Washington.

That has included him missing portions of practices to receive treatment. In Week 1, he received an IV at halftime against the Philadelphia Eagles. This week, he stayed well hydrated and didn’t need an IV against the Arizona Cardinals. Yet, he had to make adjustments to his routine.

As for traveling to Arizona Saturday, Rivera said his doctors felt it would be best not to spend two days on the road.

Road games present another obstacle Rivera must face trying to coach while dealing with his health.

Washington will play on the road next week against the Cleveland Browns. Following next week, Washington’s next road game is set for Week 6 at the New York Giants with two home games sandwiched in between.

In all, Washington has seven road games remaining on their schedule. That includes a three-game stretch at Dallas (Thanksgiving), at Pittsburgh and at San Francisco in Weeks 12-14. It will be interesting to see what will be the plan for Rivera with their remaining road games moving forward.
