Washington Football Team remains in first place of awful NFC East

There’s no denying the NFC East is bad this year. But, the once crown jewel division of the NFL, could be a historic laughingstock this season.

All four teams hold a losing record through three weeks of the season. Their combined record is 2-9-1. Each team has a negative point differential.

Despite losing to the Cleveland Browns 34-20 to drop to 1-2 on the season, the Washington Football Team is in first place of the NFC East. While the nation capital reacts to a dreadful, three-interception performance from quarterback Dwayne Haskins, the rest of the NFC East was just as bad Sunday. Thus, Washington will sit atop of the standings for the third week in a row.

Washington currently holds the tie-breaker over the Dallas Cowboys, who are also 1-2 thus far this seasons, by virtue of a better divisional record. Washington beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1 27-17. The Cowboys have not played a divisional game

Dallas Cowboys (1-2)

The Cowboys fell behind 30-15 to the Seattle Seahawks in the third quarter before rallying to take a 31-30 lead in the fourth quarter. But despite quarterback Dak Prescott throwing for 472 yards and three touchdowns, the Cowboys defense couldn’t contain Seahawks QB Russell Wilson.

Wilson threw five touchdowns for the second consecutive week. Prescott threw the second of two interceptions in a last-ditch chance at the end of game, as Dallas fell 38-31 in Seattle.

Philadelphia Eagles (0-2-1)

For the first time this season the Eagles didn’t lose. However, they didn’t win either against the winless Cincinnati Bengals. Quarterback Carson Wentz overcame two interceptions to send the game into overtime with a seven-yard touchdown run with 21 seconds remaining in regulation.

Both the Eagles and Bengals traded punts in overtime before the game ended in a 23-23 tie.

Wentz continues to struggle this season, throwing three touchdowns against six interceptions through three games.

New York Giants (0-3)

The Giants remain the worst team in the hapless division. Sunday, the Giants allowed 420 yards of offense to a depleted San Francisco 49ers team en route to a 36-9 loss.

The Giants were without its star running back Saquon Barkley, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL last week. Quarterback Daniel Jones was New York’s leading rusher with 49 yards on the ground.

Meanwhile, Jones struggled throwing the football. He was 17-of-32 passing for 179 and an interception. He also had one of three fumbles lost by the Giants. His counterpart Nick Mullens threw for 343 yards and one touchdown. Mullens was starting in place of the injured Jimmy Garoppolo.

Tough slate next week

How long does Washington cling on to the division lead remains to be seen. They face the daunting task of playing 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens (2-0) in Week 4. The Cowboys will return to Dallas to host the Browns (2-1).

The Eagles will play at the 49ers (2-1) next Sunday night. Meanwhile, the Giants, who cannot surpass Washington in the standings next week win, lose or draw, will be at the Los Angeles Rams (2-1).
