The Washington Football Team defensive line is in store for a huge boost Sunday. Rookie defensive end Chase Young, who is dealing with a strained groin, is expected to play against the Los Angeles Rams, according to ESPN’s John Keim.
Young suffered the injury in the second quarter of Week 3’s loss to the Cleveland Browns. The injury forced him to miss last week’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. He is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Rams.
As the No. 2 overall pick, Young flashed as a dominant pass rusher through the first two games, leading Washington with 2.5 sacks. Washington posted 11 sacks as a team in Young’s two full games. However, the team has just three in the last two weeks.
Getting Young back bolsters Washington’s athleticism, speed and strength on the edge. Something they’ve missed last week against Lamar Jackson and will need facing an improved Rams offensive line that has limited pressures and sacks on quarterback Jared Goff thus far this season.
In additional good news, Keim reports center Chase Roullier (knee) and right guard Wes Schweitzer (elbow) are also expected to play.
Roullier popped on the injury report Friday after not practicing as he experienced swelling in his knee. He has played every offensive snap this season, thus Washington and first-time starting quarterback Kyle Allen will be gracious to have him playing, especially facing arguably the league’s most fearless defensive lineman Aaron Donald.
Schweitzer returned to practice Friday after missing Wednesday and Thursday’s practices with an elbow injury. Schweitzer has started the previous two games at right guard in place of Brandon Scherff, who currently is on injured reserved with a sprained MCL.
Washington (1-3) and the Rams (3-1) kickoff at 1:00 pm at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland.
