Watch: John Wall plays spades during ESPN interview

Washington Wizards guard John Wall should be in the midst of the NBA preseason right about now, gearing for his return from a torn Achilles and the start of a new regular season. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic delaying the finish of this past season with the Finals being played earlier this month, it’s unclear when the 2020-21 season will start.

In the meantime, Wall is relegated to doing interviews in between his personal training. Monday night, the five-time All-Star appeared on ESPN’s “Monday Tailgate” to discuss being an avid Dallas Cowboys fans prior to their embarrassing Monday Night Football performance against the Arizona Cardinals.

The timing of the interview could not have been any worse. As Field Yates and Jason Fritz tried to conduct their interview, Wall was busy playing a cards game — presumably spades.

Wall is seen motioning his bids and playing his hand. At one point, Yates had to repeat his question because Wall was too distracted in the card game.

On one hand Wall’s lack of attention to the interview could be deemed disrespectful. On the other hand, it was considered pretty hilarious. It’s hard to gauge the importance of the interview, considering it was about the woeful Cowboys and the rest of their division the NFC East. Wall does play in the NBA.
