Washington places rookie WR Antonio Gandy-Golden on injured reserve

The Washington Football Team has placed rookie wide receiver Antonio Gandy-Golden on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, the team announced. Rookie offensive lineman Saahdiq Charles was also officially placed on injured reserve with a dislocated kneecap, as previously reported.

Gandy-Golden was injured on the opening drive of last week’s loss to the New York Giants. He pulled up on a throw from quarterback Kyle Allen and immediately limped off to the sideline.

He will have to be out at least three games before he is eligible to return to the active roster.

Gandy-Golden was a fourth-round pick of Washington in this year’s draft out of Liberty. At 6-foot-4 with soft hands, there was a great deal of anticipation behind Gandy-Golden. But, a concussion forced him to miss portion of training camp and kept him out of the season-opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

However, he has struggled to get acclimated within the offense since his return. In five games, Gandy-Golden has one catch for three yards on 65 offensive snaps. A 22-yard run is the best play of his young NFL career thus far.

Gandy-Golden has taken a backseat to now-injured undrafted rookie wide out Isaiah Wright with his slowed development.

With Gandy-Golden on IR and Wright out this week with a shoulder injury, Washington elevated wide receivers Tony Brown and Jeff Badet from their practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Washington signed wide receiver Robert Foster to their active roster from the Green Bay Packers practice squad. Foster is currently undergoing the league-mandated six days of COVID-19 testing. He is expected to join the team next week to add to the receiving corps.
