Washington LT Geron Christian inactive with knee injury vs. Cowboys

Washington left tackle Geron Christian will not play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, the team announced.

Christian appeared on the injury report Thursday after experiencing knee soreness. He did not practice Thursday and Friday and was listed as questionable heading into the game.

Christian had started every game this season, playing every offensive snap.

Cornelius Lucas, who Washington signed this off-season at swing tackle, will start in place of Christian, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.

The 6-foot-8 Lucas is a seven-year pro. He has started 16 games in his career, including eight last season at right tackle with the Chicago Bears. Pro Football Focus named him the Bears’ most improved player in the league last season. Sunday he will be tasked with protecting the blindside of quarterback Kyle Allen.

Lucas will line up against a Cowboys defense that has 11 sacks this season led by pass rusher Aldon Smith with four sacks along with DeMarcus Lawrence, Everson Griffen and the returning Randy Gregory off the edge.

Washington other inactives will be wide receiver Isaiah Wright (shoulder), defensive end James Smith-Williams (concussion), quarterback Dwayne Haskins, linebacker Thomas Davis, defensive end Casey Toohill and recently signed wide receiver Robert Foster (pre-entry COVID testing).
