Report: Dwayne Haskins trade is ‘inevitable’

Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins has been inactive for the past three games since being benched. As the No. 3 quarterback, Haskins has been relegated to pre-game workouts before watching the game in street clothes.

It’s a rather unique situation for the 2019 first-round pick. With his replacement Kyle Allen playing better as Washington’s starting quarterback, it’s hard to imagine Haskins playing another down for Washington.

Despite Washington head coach Ron Rivera repeatedly saying he has not quit on him, people close to the situation believe trading Haskins is “inevitable” according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“I spoke to a source close to the Haskins situation recently who said a trade is probably inevitable at this point, either now or later,” Fowler said on ESPN’s SportsCenter Wednesday. “You might as well do it now. So for Washington, I expect for them to entertain at least some offers. The question is, can they get enough capital?”

After starting the first four games of the season, Haskins was benched and demoted to third on the depth chart behind Allen and veteran Alex Smith. The demotion has led to him being inactive on game day. Yet, Haskins’ name is still active in the headlines.

Haskins did not attend the first game following his benching due to an illness, a Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams. The illness also kept him away from the team and forced him to miss two practices the ensuing week.

He returned in time to travel with the team to his home state of New Jersey for their Week 6 game at the New York Giants. However, it was later revealed he was fined by Washington for violating the team’s COVID-19 protocols when he booked a room for a family friend at the team hotel.

Just a year ago Haskins appeared to be the future of the organization as the 15th overall pick. He started seven games as a rookie, and closed the year on a high note. However, four games into his second season, he could be shipped out of town after failing to impress his new coaching staff.

If Washington is going to enact by moving on from Haskins sooner rather than later, they will have less than a week before the NFL’s Nov. 3 trade deadline.
