Ron Rivera won’t speculate on Ryan Kerrigan trade rumors

Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera won’t speculate on any trade talk surrounding defensive end Ryan Kerrigan or any player for that matter.

It was a clear message to the media Monday by Rivera. The question was presented after a report surfaced that Kerrigan had requested a trade from Washington, but the team was unwilling to trade him.

Kerrigan’s role in Washington’s defense has decreased with the addition of rookie defensive end Chase Young along with 2019 first-round pick Montez Sweat.

Kerrigan has played in just over 36% of Washington’s defensive snaps this season. He had a career-low seven snaps against the New York Giants in Week 6. Still, Kerrigan is second on the team with four sacks despite the low volume of snaps.

Washington is in second place of the lowly NFC East. But, their 2-5 record has sparked rumors and speculation of a Kerrigan trade. Washington appears intent on keeping the 32-year old pass rusher. In large due to his impact on the two pass rushing studs, Young and Sweat, and the other young players on the team.

“He’s been exactly what we hoped he would be,” Rivera added per Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post. “He’s setting the example and he’s the right kind of guy that we have here.”
