Washington Football Team quarterback Kyle Allen is expected to undergo surgery after suffering an ankle dislocation and fracture Sunday, jeopardizing his season according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Allen was injured in the first quarter against the New York Giants, when he was leg-whipped by Giants safety Jabrill Peppers. He was carted off the field after an air cast was placed on his ankle.
Allen seemingly said his goodbye to the season in an Instagram post that he vowed “I’ll be back stronger and better.”
Allen started four games this season following the benching of Dwayne Haskins. He completed 69% of his passes, throwing four touchdowns against one interception. Washington’s offense had seemingly got in a groove with him under center. However, now his season could possibly be over due to the unfortunate play.
With Kyle Allen out, Alex Smith will be the starting quarterback moving forward, head coach Ron Rivera announced immediately after their 23-20 loss to the Giants. Smith is returning from a horrific leg injury two years ago. He threw for 325 yards and one touchdown in relief of Allen. However, his three interceptions helped foil Washington’s second half rally.
