Washington Football Team quarterback Kyle Allen is expected to undergo surgery for his ankle dislocation and fracture, jeopardizing his season according to an ESPN report. However, Washington head coach Ron Rivera stressed it’s “premature” to say Allen is out for the rest of the season.
Allen suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s 23-20 loss to the New York Giants. He was carted off the field after he was leg-whipped by Giants safety Jabrill Peppers, who apologized for injuring the quarterback.
Allen had assumed the starting quarterback role for Washington in Week 5 following the benching of Dwayne Haskins. In those four starts, Allen completed 69% of his passes for 610 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.
Washington is unclear the timetable for Allen. Meanwhile, Alex Smith will be the starting quarterback moving forward. Haskins will serve as the backup, beginning with next week’s game against the Detroit Lions.
