Trent Williams was a leader and seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle during his nine seasons with the Washington Football Team. In that time he took right tackle Morgan Moses under his wings, per say. Moses matured in a lot of ways in the shadows of Williams.
Now Williams is gone, traded to the San Francisco 49ers following a messy separation. Meanwhile, Moses has emerged as one of the vocal leaders of Washington’s locker room in Williams’ absence. That was never more exemplified than his passionate speech to his offensive teammates on the sidelines following a lackluster start in last week’s game against the New York Giants.
On Wednesday, Moses shared an inspirational message Williams sent him on a signed jersey.
“My dawg, my lil brudda, I’m proud of the man and player you have grown into. The teammate you are the leader you are in the locker room makes you irreplaceable. I pray god continues to bless you and the fam with perfect health. Stay blessed. keep grinding. Love ya 4 life!! family forever,” Williams wrote.
Moses has been instrumental tying the relationship of Washington’s rather young locker room to first-year head coach Ron Rivera. While the team searches for a franchise quarterback, Moses has been at the head of the team’s table.
His play is just as exemplary as his words. Since becoming the starting right tackle in 2015, Moses has yet to miss a start. He’s battled nicks and bruises through the years, including a hip ailment this season.
His durability, leadership and outreach efforts in the Washington community are increasingly being highlighted now he is no longer in the shadows of Williams.
Williams’ message was his way of showing appreciation from afar of the maturity and growth seen in Moses.
