The Week 13 game between the Washington Football Team and Pittsburgh Steelers has been moved from Sunday afternoon to Monday night on Dec. 7.
The rescheduling of the game is a result of the NFL pushing back the Steelers’ Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens to Wednesday afternoon. The Ravens-Steelers game was originally scheduled for Thanksgiving. However, the game was postponed due to multiple Ravens players tested positive for COVID-19.
The outbreak caused the Ravens to shut down their team facility last week before being reopened Monday. A total of 21 Baltimore players, including quarterback Lamar Jackson, were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list in the past week.
The safety concern forced the game to initially be moved to this past Sunday afternoon. But as the number of positive tests increased, the league later postponed the game to Tuesday night. However, the game was moved a third time to Wednesday afternoon with a 3:40 pm kickoff.
Baltimore’s Week 13 game against the Dallas Cowboys originally scheduled for this Thursday will be moved to Tuesday Dec. 8.
The Steelers, who remain the only undefeated team in the league this season with a 10-0 record, will now receive four days rest from Wednesday’s game against the Ravens and Monday’s game against Washington.
Coincidentally, Pittsburgh has placed several players on the reserve/COVID-19 list, including running back James Conner. Additionally, two assistant coaches have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Washington last played on Thanksgiving, beating the Cowboys 41-16. They will have 10 days rest before Monday’s game in Pittsburgh. In Week 14, Washington will play against the San Francisco 49ers in Arizona at the home stadium of the Cardinals due to COVID-19-related sports ban in Santa Clara County, California where the 49ers’ home stadium is located.
