The Washington Football Team placed linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton on injured reserve with an elbow injury, the team announced Monday. Washington signed Mychal Kendricks from the Seattle Seahawks practice squad in a corresponding move.
Hamilton’s injury adds to the health woes at linebacker for Washington. Cole Holcomb (concussion) and Kevin Pierre-Louis (ankle) both missed Sunday’s loss to Seattle.
Hamilton started the game, but exited after 24 defensive snaps due to his injury.
The team doesn’t believe the elbow injury is serious, according to ESPN’s John Keim. However, the IR placement means he will miss the final two games of the regular season as well as the wild card round playoff game, if Washington wins the NFC East.
Hamilton finishes his third season in Washington with 21 tackles and two for losses in 14 games, including three starts.
He will be eligible to return for the divisional round of the postseason, if Washington advances that far. His potential return may be perfect timing. Kendricks is scheduled to undergo sentencing on Jan. 13 for pleading guilty to federal charges of insider trading.
The divisional round games are slated for the weekend of Jan. 16-17.
