Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins issued an apology via Twitter after photos surfaced online of him partying at a strip club without a mask.
āI want to publicly apologize for my actions this past Sunday. I spoke with Coach Rivera (on Monday) and took full accountability for putting the team at risk,ā Haskins wrote on Twitter. āIt was irresponsible and immature of me and I accept responsibility for my action. I also want to apologize for creating a distraction for my team during our playoff push. I will learn and grow from this and do whatās best for the team moving forward.ā
Haskins then turned his Twitter account private shortly after his apology.
Washington is aware of the photos and they contacted the NFL for a potential violation of the league’s COVID-19 protocols, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post. Washington will handle the situation internally.
Haskins admitted he spoke with Washington head coach Ron Rivera on Monday to discuss his actions.
The incident in question occurred Sunday evening after Washington’s 20-15 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Haskins started the game in place of an injured Alex Smith. In the game, he threw for 295 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
Haskins was fined earlier this season by the team for violating COVID-19 protocols. He booked a room for a family friend at the team hotel ahead of Washington’s Week 6 game at the New York Giants.
Sunday’s game was his first start since he was benched after Week 4. Despite a slow start with the two interceptions and a 20-3 deficit, Haskins led the rally to cut the deficit to 20-15 with a chance to win the game on the team’s final drive.
Unfortunately the headlines of his valiant comeback effort has shifted to his “irresponsible and immature” actions visiting the strip club not wearing a mask.
