Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins visiting Steelers

Former Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins is visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Pittsburgh is the second team visit for the 2019 first-round pick. Haskins recently visited the Carolina Panthers.

Haskins was waived by Washington last month less than two seasons after the team selected him 15th overall. He went unclaimed on waivers and became free to sign wit any team of his choosing.

The Steelers have a peculiar situation at quarterback. Ben Roethlisberger will be 39 years old in March. While he helped lead the Steelers to an AFC North division title, he showed his age down the stretch of the season. As a result, the Steelers lost fuve of their last six games after an 11-0 start.

Roethlisberger has one year remaining on his contract with a $41.3 million cap hit. Given his age and elbow injury that kept him out of the 2019 season, 2021 could be the future Hall of Famer’s last year in Pittsburgh.

Haskins was a failed bust in Washington. He never quite meshed with two coaching staffs. Not to mention his struggles with professionalism and maturity. However, landing with with a strong culture like Pittsburgh could be a perfect situation for him.

Haskins get to develop behind a two-time Super Bowl champion. Meanwhile, he will have a team culture that’s been established much longer than Washington. It could go a long way towards his maturation as an NFL QB.
