Report: Washington willing to trade more than a first-round pick for QB

The trade market for veteran quarterbacks is booming. At the top of the list is disgruntled Houston Texans star Deshaun Watson and Detroit Lions cornerstone Matthew Stafford. Teams are lining up for a rare chance to grab such a marquee QB in a trade, and that includes the Washington Football Team.

With all eyes on Watson and Stafford, the price for landing one or the other could be steep. It appears, Washington understands the situation and is willing to offer more assets than just a first-round draft pick in a potential trade, according to NFL insider Josina Anderson.

Washington enters this offseason in dire need of a viable quarterback. The team endured a quarterback carousel during the 2020 season with four different signal callers starting. Injuries and subpar play at quarterback hampered the team all season.

Despite the QB struggles, Washington was able to win the NFC East division title and make the playoffs. Now, they’re looking to stabilize the most important position to add to a strong solid core, highlighted by their defense.

Watson has a no-trade clause, so he will get the luxury to dictate where he goes. So he would have to keen on heading to Washington. Stafford reportedly prefers to play out west, but Washington is one of two east teams that have emerged as realistic options.

Nonetheless, Washington would become a serious contender in the NFC if they are to land a formidable veteran quarterback. Therefore, it makes sense for them to be willing to deal a large trade package to get one.
