Henrik Lundqvist won’t return to Capitals this season

Henrik Lundqvist won’t return to the Washington Capitals this season. The 39-year old legendary goaltender made the announcement on Twitter Sunday. He had hoped to return to the ice after having open-heart surgery in January.

Lundqvist added last week’s checkup showed some inflammation around his heart which needs a “few months” or rest and recovery.

The longtime New York Rangers goalie signed a one-year deal with the Capitals. However, a heart condition was discovered required him to undergo open-heart surgery in January. But he still hoped to return to Capitals by the end of the season, working with trainers to get back on the ice.

Now, he’ll be forced to rest and complete his recovery from the surgery with hopes of coming back next season.
