Chase Young, Montez Sweat among players absent from Washington’s OTAs

The Washington Football Team had a great turnout at the start of Phase II of their offseason workouts. It was reported 86 of the 90 players were present Tuesday morning.

However, Chase Young and Montez Sweat were among those absent. In addition to Washington’s dynamic defensive end duo, recently-signed offensive tackle Charles Leno Jr. was absent as well as wide receiver Steven Sims Jr.

According to Ben Standig of The Athletic, Young and Sweat are both expected to be in Ashburn at different points during the voluntary OTAs. Washington head coach Ron Rivera said he “understands” why some players opted to skip the voluntary sessions. He added Young and Sweat have been in touch with their position coaches.

Leno’s absence is explained as his wife recently gave birth to the couple’s second child. It’s unclear why Sims was absent. Sims was present during Phase I of offseason workouts, according to John Keim of ESPN.
