Tina Charles makes WNBA history with second straight 30-point, 15-rebound game

Tina Charles has done something no other player has done in WNBA history. The star center led the Washington Mystics to an 87-83 win over the Seattle Storm on the road Tuesday.

Charles scored a game-high 34 points on 14-of-25 shooting. She also snagged 16 rebounds. That comes on the heels of her 30 points and 15 rebounds on Jun. 19 against Indiana. Charles is the WNBA player with back-to-back 30-point, 15-rebound games.

Charles has been a huge addition to Washington this season. She initially joined the team in 2020. But opted out of the season on a medical waiver during the coronavirus pandemic. Charles returned this season on a one-year deal.

She has taken over as the centerpiece of Washington’s offense in the absence of 2019 WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne, who is still recovering from back surgery. Charles leads the league in scoring with 25.3 points per game while pulling down 9.6 rebounds per contest.

The Mystics have now won five of their last six games. Tuesday’s win has propelled the 7-6 Mystics into fourth in the league’s standings.
