Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has become a lightning rod through the years with his opinions. He provides great insight on NFL news but often times can overextend himself with hot takes. Thursday night was no different.
Florio tweeted an unappealing take during the Hall of Fame game between the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Many fans voiced their disagreement. But one noticeable opponent was Washington Football Team president Jason Wright.
Wright was one of those fringe players during his playing career. Like many of the guys who played Thursday with the Steelers and Cowboys are doing or will do, Wright bounced around multiple teams from 2004-2010 mostly through training camp and preseason.
Then, Florio brought up a comment made by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about preseason not being the highest possible standards of the league. (Note: Goodell’s comment was actually stated in 2017 not in 2019 as Florio implies).
Goodell’s quote was geared into reducing the preseason games to three, which the NFL did starting this season. Nonetheless, Wright had a great response to Florio again.
The preseason gives young players an opportunity to chase their dream and experience life in pro football. It’s a memorable moment for players and their families even if it’s a “glorified practice.”
Not to mention the number of fans who tune in to see the first football game in nearly six months. There are millions of die-hard football fans who are interested and intrigued to watch.
