Raiders signing Peyton Barber from Washington’s practice squad

The Las Vegas Raiders are signing running back Peyton Barber from the Washington Football Team practice squad, according to Ben Standig of The Athletic.

Barber was released by Washington on Tuesday during their final roster cuts for the season. The 27-year old Barber was beaten out by undrafted rookie Jarett Patterson for RB3 behind Antonio Gibson and JD McKissic. Washington signed him back to the practice squad the following day.

Barber joined Washington last season on a two-year deal after previously spending four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He ultimately settled in as the short yardage running back, although he did start two games.

Appearing in 16 games, he rushed 258 yards and four touchdowns on 94 carries. He also played on 130 special teams snaps for Washington.

He seemed destined for a similar role this upcoming season. However, Patterson emerged as a more dynamic runner and fit schematically for Washington.

Peyton Barber heads to Vegas for an RB3/RB4 role. Josh Jacobs is the featured back for the Raiders. They signed Kenyan Drake this offseason and has Jalen Richard on the roster as well.

During his five year career, Barber has rushed for 2,245 yards and 19 touchdowns in 79 games. His best season came in 2018 when he started 16 games for the Buccaneers and rushed for 871 yards and five touchdowns.
