Washington All-Pro guard Brandon Scherff likely out 2-3 weeks with MCL sprain

Washington Football Team All-Pro right guard Brandon Scherff is likely out two-to-three weeks with an MCL sprain of his knee, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Scherff exited Sunday’s 34-30 win over the Atlanta Falcons in the third quarter. It appeared he was rolled on. Players gathered around him out of concern. He eventually walked off on his own power straight to the locker room.

This is the second consecutive season Scherff has suffered an MCL sprain. He missed three games in 2020 with a similar injury before returning to earn first-team All-Pro honors.

Like last season, Scherff is playing on a franchise tag this season. This year’s tag price is at $18.036 million. While long-term contract talks stalled once again before the July 15 deadline, Scherff is still confident a deal can be done at the end of the season.

It’s expected Wes Schweitzer would replace Scherff at right guard during his absence. Schweitzer started all three games Scherff missed last year before switching to left guard, starting 13 games in total.
