Saahdiq Charles has a “good chance” to start at right tackle Sunday for the Washington Football Team when they take on the Denver Broncos, according to Ben Standig of The Athletic.
Rookie Sam Cosmi, who has started five games at right tackle this season, will miss his third straight game with an ankle injury. Cornelius Lucas started the first two games Cosmi missed. However, Lucas is questionable for Sunday’s game with an illness.
Washington selected Charles in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. From the onset of training camp, Charles dealt with multiple injuries. He made one start as a rookie at left guard. He suffered a season-ending knee injury in just the second snap of his career.
Although he has since recovered, Charles was inactive for the first four games of the season. Now he could be thrust into action at right tackle. He’ll be standing next to another fill-in, Wes Schweitzer, who is expected to start in place of injured All-Pro Brandon Scherff (MCL sprain).
