The Washington Football Team announced Saturday the team is planning a physical memorial at FedEx Field for the late Sean Taylor. The announcement came on the 14th anniversary of the death of Taylor.
Washington is launching a memorial project on April 1, 2022, Taylor’s birthday. The team will partner with Taylor’s family and is encouraging fans for input. The unveiling of the memorial will occur sometime during the 2022 season.
Washington retired Taylor’s No. 21 jersey earlier this season. The team, however, drew criticism for making the announcement only three days before the ceremony.
Washington’s team president Jason Wright has since apologized for how the team fumbled the situation. That included the presumed lack of organization during the ceremony.
Saturday’s announcement is a step into the Washington Football Team handling Taylor’s memorial unveiling better.
