NBA trade rumors: Wizards among several teams pursuing Jerami Grant

With the Feb. 10 NBA trade deadline approaching, one of the hottest names on the market is Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant.

The Pistons currently have the second-worst record in the league at 8-30. Thus several playoff contenders are lining up with interest in the 27-year old Grant.

The Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trailblazers and New York Knicks were a few suitors pursuing Grant ahead of the trade deadline, according to the Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Grant is currently sidelined with an UCL injury in his right thumb. He is averaging 20.1 points and 4.8 rebounds in 24 games this season.

Prior to last season, he signed a three-year, $60 million deal with the Pistons in free agency. He averaged a career-high 22.3 points in his first season in Detroit.

Grant is eligible for a four-year extension worth $112 million this summer.

For the Wizards, they are currently 20-20 and currently ninth in the Eastern Conference standings. Washington is looking to improve their roster.

This past summer they acquired Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Montrezl Harrell in a trade from the Lakers. The Wizards also signed Spencer Dinwiddie to a three-year free agent deal while Bradley Beal continues to be the cornerstone of the team.

Kuzma has shined most of the new additions. The Wizards are now in better shape than recent past seasons. Thus, general manager Tommy Sheppard is looking to address some needs and Jerami Grant is a reported target.
