Maryland announces new 2022 football schedule following Big Ten adjustments

The Maryland Terrapins announced its 2022 football schedule on Wednesday following the Big Ten Conference revision of its conference schedule. The adjustments were made due to the COVID-19 impacted 2020 schedule.

Initially, the Big Ten had its conference schedules set through 2025. But in 2020, The Big Ten and other Power 5 conferences went to a conference-only schedule due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maryland’s three non-conference games were untouched. The Terrapins open the season Sept. 3 at Maryland Stadium against Buffalo of the MAC. They’ll then continue their non-conference schedule with a trip to Charlotte of Conference USA on Sept. 10. Then, they’ll play back home against SMU of the American Athletic Conference.

Three of Maryland’s nine conference games did not change. They’ll open the season at the Big Ten champions Michigan on Sept. 24. Maryland plays at Penn State on Nov. 12. Then come back home to play Ohio State on Nov. 19.

As for the adjustments? They start in their second Big Ten of the season. Originally Maryland was to play Purdue at home on Oct. 1. Now, the Terps will play against Michigan State on that date following the Big Ten revision.

The game against Michigan State was originally set for the last game of the season on Nov. 26.

The Purdue game was switched to the following week on Oct. 8. Maryland will play at Indiana on Oct. 15 — a week later than the original schedule. Their Oct. 22 home game against Northwestern remains.

Maryland will have its bye on the week of Oct. 29. Then they’ll play at Wisconsin on Nov. 5 — three weeks later than the original schedule.

After being at Penn State and home against Ohio State, Maryland now closes the season out at home against Rutgers on Nov. 26.

Here’s the complete new schedule:

In all, Maryland will play seven of 12 games at Maryland Stadium. They’ll have five home conference games.
