Latest report suggests Dan Snyder could be forced out by NFL Owners

The clock may be ticking on Daniel Snyder and his ownership of the Washington Commanders following new allegations of sexual harassment directly tied to the owner.

During NBC’s pregame coverage of Super Bowl LVI, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported that support from the other NFL owners may be wavering for Snyder.

“I’m told for the first time ever, there is a sense among ownership that the time may have come for Daniel Snyder to move on,” Florio stated.

During a roundtable with the House Committee on Oversight and Reform earlier this month, former Washington employee Tiffani Johnston directly accused Snyder of sexual harassment during her tenure with the team.

Snyder denied the allegations and attempted to hire a firm to investigate the new allegations. However, the NFL quickly stepped in and clarified they will hire their own investigators to look into Johnston’s allegations.

Additionally, Florio dropped a second nugget going back to the league’s initial investigation into the Commanders organization that started in July 2020.

He confirmed a report by 106.7 the Fan’s The Sports Junkies from last year that Beth Wilkinson, the lead investigator into the team’s workplace culture would have recommended that Snyder be forced to sell the team had a written report been submitted.

“I’m told that, as reported at the time by 106.7 The Fan after the station obtained a copy of a document that was never actually submitted to the NFL…the report would have recommended that owner Daniel Snyder be forced to sell the team.”

However, the league requested that Wilkinson deliver her findings orally. Thus the recommendation was never officially made.

The NFL seemingly buried the findings until Congress requested the results be publicly released. Congress has given the league a Feb. 14 deadline to hand over documents into last year’s investigation. However, the league responded with a letter to Congress, blaming Snyder for blocking the release of the results

The league’s admittance at the very least illustrates how the remaining owners are prepared to turn against Snyder. Barring the results of the new investigation, momentum appears to be shifting for the first time for a possible forced sale.
