Russell Wilson appears to shoot down idea of being traded to Washington Commanders

There’s a lot of speculation surrounding the future of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, including getting traded to the Washington Commanders.

Wilson appeared on NBC’s Today Show with his wife Ciara. Today host Craig Melvin asked Wilson about his desire to play for the Commanders.

Wilson seemingly shot down the idea.

“I’m from Richmond, I know what you mean, I got people hitting me up every day, all my friends and all that from the East Coast but Seattle’s the place I’m at right now and I love it,” Wilson said.

Some may point to the keywords of “right now.”

Is it fair or wishful thinking?

It was Wilson’s camp that let out their frustrations about the Seahawks last offseason. After a down season in 2021, speculation has grown about him wanting out and being traded.

Russell Wilson to the Commanders has been the sexy choice by many, especially in Washington. But the evidence continues to point to Wilson staying put in Seattle.

The Seahawks may be financially joined at the hip with Wilson. He carries a $26 million dead cap hit and it grows to $31 million after he receives a $5 million roster bonus on March 20.

Wilson does have a no-trade clause. Thus, the day he decides he wants to get out, he can dictate his landing spot. Being that he grew up in nearby Richmond, would make Washington an ideal option.

The Commanders reportedly are set to pursue him. Until there is evidence to prove otherwise, Wilson and Seahawks plan on being together in 2022.
