Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was motivated to beat Mavericks in Spencer Dinwiddie return

There’s no secret that Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was at the center of Spencer Dinwiddie’s departure from the Washington Wizards. A beef between the two former teammates has brewed following Dinwiddie’s trade to the Dallas Mavericks.

Thus, Caldwell-Pope had extra motivation when the Mavericks visited the Wizards Friday night.

Before the game, Caldwell-Pope admitted he told his Wizards teammates Dinwiddie “ain’t getting no win, either,” per Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington.

KCP made sure of it, scoring a season-high 35 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field, leading the Wizards to a blowout 135-103 win.

Dinwiddie struggled scoring eight points on 2-of-6 shooting off the bench.

The win also gave Washington the two-game season sweep over the Mavericks, who have already clinched a playoff berth and are fourth in Western Conference standings.

Another invested player on the court was Wizards center Kristaps Porzingis. The Mavericks traded Porzingis to Washington for Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans.

Caldwell-Pope rallied Porzingis before the game saying, “Since they let you go, we’re gonna beat them up for you.”

Porzingis added 24 points and nine rebounds in the win.

At this point the Wizards (34-43) don’t have much to play for after being eliminated from playoff contention on Thursday. Dinwiddie’s return was perfect timing for Caldwell-Pope.
