LSU transfer Brandon Murray has made his decision. The 6-foot-5 guard announced Monday he is committing to Patrick Ewing and the Georgetown Hoyas.
Murray is viewed as one of the top players in this year’s transfer portal. He was among many LSU players who entered the portal following the firing of head coach Will Wade.
Murray’s commitment to Georgetown comes as no surprise. In March, Ewing hired LSU interim coach Kevin Nickelberry to his staff. Speculation of Georgetown being in play for Murray and other LSU transfers brewed immediately.
As a four-star, Murray was a top-100 recruit in 2021 when he chose LSU over Auburn, Ole Miss and Georgetown. He averaged 10.0 points, shooting 42.6% from te field nd 33.6% from three in 33 games as a freshman. He also averaged 3.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals.
Brandon Murray is a Baltimore native, although he finished his high school at IMG Academy in Florida. On his Instagram post, the words “I’m Coming Home” were featured on his announcement graphic.
Georgetown is looking to regroup from a winless Big East season. The Hoyas finished in last place of the Big East last season for the first time in conference history. They went 0-20 in conference play, including a first-round loss in the Big East Tournament.
Ewing has avoided a firing and received a vote of confidence from the school. Now, he’ll look to rebuild a Hoyas program that has struggled the past decade and the first four years under his coaching.
