Ex-Capitals defenseman Justin Schultz signing two-year deal with Kraken

Add another defenseman to the needs for the Washington Capitals. Just as the NHL’s 2022 free agency period started, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports Justin Schultz has agreed to a two-year deal worth around $3 million per season.

The 32-year old Schultz is a 10-year veteran. He spent the past two seasons with the Capitals on an $8 million contract. Last season, he appeared in 74 games. He had four goals and 19 assists in 16:55 average time on ice. However, he had a minus-15.

The Kraken will be Schultz’s fourth team during his NHL career. The University of Wisconsin product played nearly four seasons with the Edmonton Oilers before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He spent five seasons with the Penguins winning two Stanley Cup titles in his first two seasons there.

Schultz has played in 665 career games. He has an 82-game average of eight goals and 27 assists.
