Nationals ban two fans from ballpark after exchange with Cubs star Willson Contreras

The Washington Nationals have banned two fans from Nationals Park for five years after a heated exchange with Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras, according to the Chicago Tribune’s Meghan Montemurro.

Contreras drove in the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning in the Cubs’ 7-5 win. Just as he headed back to the dugout, video shows Contreras animated and exchanging words with the fans. He continued to be visibly upset before stadium security ejected the fans from the ballpark.

After the game, Contreras said he wouldn’t get into exactly what was said during the ordeal. Both fans ejected from the game were wearing Nationals jerseys.

“If somebody tried to mess up my family, they’re going to (have to go through) me first. Whatever they said it wasn’t healthy. It was not right,” according to Montemurro.

Contreras did not appear in the Cubs’ 3-2 win over the Nationals Wednesday.
