Commanders RT Sam Cosmi to be evaluated for concerning hand injury

Already down several offensive linemen due to injuries, the Washington Commanders are on the verge of losing another. Washington’s right tackle Sam Cosmi suffered a hand injury in Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Cosmi will see a doctor Tuesday to be evaluated. The team is concerned the 2021 second-round draft pick could miss multiple games, according to The Athletic’s Ben Standig.

Cosmi has started all four games. Despite the latest injury, he did not miss a snap Sunday against the Cowboys.

The Commanders are already down to the team’s third center with starter Chase Roullier (knee) and backup Wes Schweitzer (concussion) currently on injured reserve. Meanwhile, right guard Trai Turner got benched in the first half against Dallas as he continues to be hampered by a lingering quad injury from training camp.

Saahdiq Charles will start in Turner’s place at right guard for the foreseeable future.

If Cosmi misses time, expect swing tackle Cornelius Lucas to fill in. Washington’s makeshift offensive line could be without three starters in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans.

Injuries limited Cosmi to nine games last season as a rookie. An ankle injury cost him four games and a hip injury kept him out another four. He now faces the possibility of missing time in his second year.

News on Cosmi comes on the same day Commanders head coach Ron Rivera revealed rookie wide receiver Jahan Dotson may miss one-to-two weeks with a hamstring injury.
