Commanders sale reportedly drawn bids ‘well north’ of $7 billion

The first round of bidding for the potential sale of the Washington Commanders comes to a close this week, as CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones previously reported. The bids have garnered offers “well north” of $7 billion, according to Forbes’ Mike Ozanian.

NBC Sports’ JP Finlay added Commanders owner Dan Snyder received at least five bids. The price of the Commanders has gone up in the wake of the pending $4 billion sale of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns.

The Denver Broncos sold for $4.65 billion earlier this year, setting the NFL record.

The Commanders announced in November that Dan and Tanya Snyder hired the Bank of America Securities to consider options toward selling all, majority, or a minority stake in the NFL franchise.

Snyder has been under fire following multiple allegations of sexual harassment, workplace misconduct, and financial improprieties. Investigations by the US House Oversight Committee, the District Attorney of Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, and the NFL twice have increased the chances of Snyder selling the team.

Snyder bought the Washington franchise in 1999 for $800 million from the estate of the late Jack Kent Cooke. Since, Washington has been subjected to a score of off-the-field headlines, shaping a negative reputation of Snyder and the franchise.

Washington fans have yearned for Snyder to sell the team. With numbers “well north” of $7 billion floated around in reported bids, Snyder may consider moving on from the Commanders.
