Latest allegations of Dan Snyder interfering in Washington workplace investigation prompts Congress’ call to NFL

Washington Football Team owner Dan Snyder is under fire following the latest Washington Post report of allegations that Snyder attempted to obstruct the NFL’s investigation into the team’s workplace culture.

According to the Post, the lawyer and lead investigator in Washington’s investigation, Beth Wilkinson, attempted to talk to a woman who accused Snyder of sexual misconduct in 2009. However, Snyder’s lawyers allegedly offered more money to the woman, who previously settled with Snyder for $1.6 million, not to speak to Wilkinson.

When Snyder’s lawyers learned the woman still intended to talk to Wilkinson, they filed a suit against Wilkinson to keep her from speaking to the woman. Snyder’s lawyers denied trying to block the interview in a sealed letter filed in court.

To note, Snyder initially hired Wilkinson to conduct the investigation after more than a dozen former employees’ allegations sexual harassment and misconduct within the Washington Football Team.

Additionally, Snyder allegedly used private investigators to harass several former employees and their friends and relatives to intimidate the former employees from participating in the league’s investigations or speaking to the press.

Meanwhile, his lawyers filed petitions in federal court in hopes to identify the former employees who spoke to the Post in their initial report back in July 2020.

In light of Tuesday’s report, Representatives Carolyn B. Maloney, the chairwoman of The House’s oversight committee and Raja Krishnamoorthi issued a statement demanding the NFL turn over the findings of Washington’s workplace harassment investigation immediately.

The league has been steadfast not to reveal the results of the investigation. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has cited the league is withholding the findings to protect the employees’ anonymity.
