Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa makes decision for 2023 season

“I’m not done yet,” Taulia Tagovailoa stated in his announcement. The quarterback announced he is returning to Maryland for his senior season.

Tagovailoa led the Terrapins to an 8-5 record last season. He threw for 3,008 yards, 18 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 12 games.

“My goal coming here to Maryland was to help Coach Locks turn this program around. After winning back-to-back bowl games, I believe everything is going in the right direction. But we’re not done yet. I’m not done yet,” Tagovailoa stated in a release.

The younger brother of Tua Tagovailoa, Taulia Tagovailoa, transferred from Alabama to Maryland in 2020 as a redshirt freshman. He has started 29 games with the Terrapins. Last season, he surpassed Scott Milanovich as Maryland’s all-time passing leader with 7,879 yards. His 51 career touchdowns and 67.4 completion percentage are also school records.

Tagovalia will look to add to the record books. Maryland’s incoming recruiting class is ranked 33rd by 247Sports and sixth in the Big Ten Conference.

Maryland is coming off back-to-back bowl victories, beating NC State last month at the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. Despite playing in the formidable Big Ten East division, Maryland has improved its record in the past two seasons.

Tagovailoa weighed options of transferring and declaring for the NFL draft. Ultimately he decided to return to Maryland. With the quarterback in tow, Maryland will look for a third-straight winning season for the first time since 2001-2003.
