Saturday, Georgetown lost for the 14th time in 15 Big East games this season. The Hoyas fell to Marquette 89-75. Hoyas senior center Qudus Wahab was not with the team for the loss.
Wahab’s absence created speculation about his whereabouts. Rumors suggest Wahab has quit the team and left the school, according to Casual Hoya.
After the game, Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing addressed Wahab’s absence.
“Qudus is dealing with some family issues, some personal family issues. I was told that yesterday and I’ll just leave it at that,” Ewing said, per Bobby Bancroft.
Qudus Wahab arrived at Georgetown in 2019 out of Flint Hill School. He blossomed as a sophomore, averaging 12.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 26 games. He was instrumental in the Hoyas’ improbable run to winning Big East Tournament in 2021.
However, the 6-foot-11 center surprisingly transferred to Maryland the following season. The move proved to be costly, as his playing time and production dropped with the Terrapins, particularly after the mid-season firing of Mark Turgeon.
Wahab decided to transfer back to Georgetown after one season at Maryland. His return to the Hoyas hadn’t proved fruitful. He is averaging 9.9 points and 7.1 rebounds in 25 games. Georgetown carries a 6-20 overall record, including 1-14 in conference play.
Wednesday, Wahab surpassed 1,000 career points during his collegiate career. Now, the focus is on his absence Saturday.
